Happy Travels from Inn at the Presidio!

Hello! We are your online guide to all things San Francisco, The Presidio, local parks & museums, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and more.  Our inn is an adorable historic bachelor's quarters from 1904, restored into a contemporary but classic 22 room Inn.  We open Spring of 2012, and hope to share with you some of the most exciting things from The NPS, the Presidio Trust, it's partners, and the San Francisco Bay at large.  You don't have to stay at our inn to ask questions about the area, or enjoy our posts... just let us know if we can help!.  Thank you, and we hope this finds you well! - Michael from Inn at the Presidio P.S. - you can find us on Twitter, and Facebook too!

7x7 does a wonderful story about Joseph Humphrey’s new Dixie at the Presidio. The restaurant is AMAZING!

My story isn’t anything out of the ordinary but I suppose is part of the history of the base. I lived in the base housing on Pershing Drive as a child in 1959. My father was an officer stationed at Fort Mason at the time. I remember taking the city bus to school at Argonne Elementary in the city. There were plenty of other children in my section of housing. We would roller skate in the empty carports and build forts in the nearby woods under the canopy of cool pines. Our bedrooms overlooked the ocean and I still can remember the sound of the foghorns during most mornings before the fog would lift. Later when we moved to Daly City, my mother would bring my brother and I onto the base to do her grocery shopping at the commissary. At the time, children were not allowed in the store, so we would sit in the car for what seemed like hours, but probably less than an hour, waiting for her to do her shopping. At the time, it was just accepted that we lived on an Army base as I did most of my life, but now that I look back, it was quite an opportunity to have lived on such a beautiful, historic piece of property. I look forward to my stay at the Inn At the Presidio this fall.

Here we are! Google Maps has gotten dramatically better. If you zoom in, you can see fantastic 3D models of all the Main Post buildings.  I just thought I might share our location.  It’s Moraga *Avenue*. Stop going to the Inner Sunset! =)

The Walt Disney Family Museum - a quick video of some of the insides of the Museum. It’s amazing…. with content for days!  It’s great that it will be so close to the Inn at the Presidio.  Some people take 5 or 6 hours to get through it, some just want to rest on a rocking chair back at their room. =)
